Foster Care
ABG Sports MissionIn the United States, youth face many obstacles
In the United States, youth face many obstacles
21% of children live in poverty, 46% have experienced family trauma, and 19% live with obesity. We believe that sport is a critical piece of healthy child development, and when used intentionally, can help address some of these systemic issues facing youth today. As a result, our mission is to provide underserved populations fair access to the sport, exposure to opportunities, and clear pathways to careers in baseball.
Population focus:
o Underserved kids. Those without traditional access and exposure to baseball and resources need to participate, including low income, children of color, displaced (homeless, foster)
Objectives:
o Create interest in and appreciation for baseball
o Expose them to opportunities in all aspects of baseball (player, broadcast, technology, statisticians, coaching, leadership)
o Provide training in all areas of baseball
o Provide avenues to capitalize on talents and skill training provided through ABG Sports

ABG Sports Academy
Our Urban Baseball Initiative
ABG Sports Academy was started in 2018, by Amory Booker with the idea of helping youth find joy in the games of baseball. In 2020 ABG Sports Academy moved its operations from Alvarado to east Fort Worth with the hopes of bringing baseball training and development to the underserved community. The goal is to create a more inclusive vision for baseball by focusing on underserved communities and starting both boys’ and girls’ youth baseball programs.
Amory Booker has been involved with baseball for over 40 years as both a player and a coach. He played for the hall of fame coach Lloyd Simmons at Seminole College. During his time at Seminole, Amory contributed to the team becoming first in the nation for the two years he attended, with records of 80-10 and 74-10. After Seminole, he signed to play at Texas Tech University, where he played until experiencing a career-ending injury. Amory has continued to maintain his passion for the sport by coaching and training future athletes.
Coach Booker has been a member of the American Baseball Coaches . He is also a member of the Frank Robinson Baseball Coaches Association and a member of the ABCA Diversity Committee. Amory has received over 45 hours of advanced-level training in coaching and uses a data-driven approach to measuring a player’s improvement.
